When I was in elementary school, one day our principal came
to our class as substitute. He said children I am going to tell you a story:
There was this man walking down the road one day. Suddenly he heard someone
cursing and saying all kind of bad words. It was a kid. The man surprised by
the language and the attitude. He told the kid: Why are so mean to me I have
not done anything bad to you? Still the kid did not stop. So the man decided
not to say anything and walk away. After some time the man happen to pass
through the same road. And to his surprise same thing happen again, bad
language and mean words. It was a same boy but little bigger. This time he even
started throwing stones at the man. The man caught him and started talking with
him nicely. But it didn’t change the boy’s attitude so the man yelled at him
and told him I will take you to your parents and have them punish you for what
you are doing. The boy started pleading him and asking for forgiveness. The man
agreed, gave him some good advice, and let him go. Few years pass by and the same
man passing through the same road. He is not old but he does not remember
anything from the past. He saw a very healthy looking young man standing right
middle of the road. The young man started a fight with that man, saying all
kind of bad words. The old man now remember those incidents from the past and
started fighting back. But this time he does not have the energy to fight this
healthy, strong, young man.
I still remember the story because of its application. My
principal said, if the man has taken care of the issue when the boy was small.
Maybe with right teaching and taking proper action, he would not have to
suffer. But he did not and now the boy became a monster and overpowered him.
I remember this story because in America right now we have
so many monsters. Monster of greed, arrogance, and pride. And then there are
some social monsters like same sex marriage, gun control, and immigration. We
have ignored these issues and now they are overpowering society. Jesus warned
his disciples about theses monsters or bad spirits. “Then it goes and takes
along seven other spirits more wicked than itself. And the last state of that
man becomes worse than the first” Matthew 12:45
We still have hope, remember “no mountain is high enough
that our Lord cannot climb.” The first
thing that we have to do is go to him just the way we are and accept that it is
our mistakes. We are in this mess because of us and us only. Then with faith we
ask Him to take us out of this. We need to start praying with faith and
humility. The Word of God says: Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He
will lift you up” James 4:10. “Our Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to
anger and rich in love.” Psalm 145:8.
He is ready to listen we just have to pray. Isaiah 59:1
says: “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His
ear so dull that it cannot hear.” Let us go back to Lord and ask Him to save
us.
